WHAT IS THE HIFU (HIGH INTENSITY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND)?

HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-invasive face and neck skin tightening and rejuvenation treatment that uses ultrasound technology and the body’s natural healing process to lift and tighten the skin without surgery. HIFU is a quick and safe procedure with almost no downtime and side effects. Ultracel Q+ Linear handpiece was launched in 2019, and it can do 300 shots in less than 3 minutes. It is also relatively painless compared to many other HIFU devices currently on the market.

HOW DOES HIFU WORK?
 
 

HIFU works by delivering intense and focused ultrasound waves into the deeper layers of the skin, targeting the superficial muscular aponeutoric system (SMAS) without damaging the skin tissue and surface. These ultrasound waves heat targeted tissue layers up to 70 degrees Celsius, trigger new collagen formation (neocollagenesis), destroy stubborn fat cells, and tighten the skin.

How is the HIFU performed?
 

Topical numbing cream is applied onto the skin about 30 minutes prior to the treatment to maximie comfort. A layer of ultrasonic gel will be applied to the treatment areas right before the procedure. Our doctor will choose the appropriate handpiece depth and set the optimal energy according to patient’s skin condition. The handpiece is gently placed on the treatment area and multiple shots are delivered to the face according to treatment protocols.

 
How long is the HIFU duration?
 

Depending on the size of treatment areas and skin condition, the entire treatment will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes.

 
Is the HIFU painful?
 

There may be some mild discomfort, slight aching and tingling sensation during the procedure but these are only temporary and well-tolerated by all patients.

 
When can I see visible results?
 

The difference can be seen right after treatment but this is mainly due to very mild swelling and immediate tightening of the collagen fibre network caused by heat generated from the intense focused ultrasound waves. In the next 2 to 3 months, collagen regeneration will take place and this process can last up to 6 months.

 
How long do the results last?
 

Depending on the pre-existing skin condition and severity of skin laxity, treatment results can last up to 12 months after one single treatment. For better results, we highly recommend going for a repeat treatment in 6 to 9 months.

 
Is there any downtime?
 

There is no significant downtime. You can return to daily activities immediately after treatment.

 
Who is a good candidate for the HIFU?
 

This treatment is suitable to treat loose or saggy skin on the cheeks, jowls, nasolabial folds, jawline, neck folds and eye areas. Hence, patients looking to improve skin laxity in these areas would be good candidates for Ultracel Q+ HIFU.
